Newsletter - June 2010DidriksonsThe THERMAL SYSTEM garments from Didriksons will help your body maintain the right temperature. The THERMAL SYSTEM garment is soft, comfortable and will keep you warm on a very cold day. SYSTEM GUIDEThe garments are divided into four different groups or “systems”. Each garment system has its own specific properties. Storm System- This label is specially developed for particularly harsh weather. The shell fabrics are fully waterproof and all the seams are sealed by tape and/or welding. Breeze System- This label means this is windproof. The fabrics used for these products are either windproof combined or windproof only. No seams are sealed. This gives a highly breathable and comfortable garment well suited for most weather conditions. Thermal System- This will help with your body to maintain the right temperature. In harsh weather they are preferably worn together with a protective shell that helps insulate the body heat. M O V E System- The fabric consists of a special yarn structure that helps absorb your body perspiration and has an antimicrobial technology that eliminates odours. I
Course ManagementQuite surprisingly tour players get up and down about 50 per cent of the time from green-side bunkers. They have a great technique, practice all the time and play courses in perfect condition. Where does course management come into play? Look at the bigger picture when you are faced with a tough sand shot. For instance, if you’re playing the 3rd hole at Commonwealth and you are in the right side bunker, 30 metres out, don’t try to carry the other bunker in front trying to reach a back right pin. Play to the middle front of the green allowing you to avoid the bunker in front. Remember if you’re aiming at the flag and unsure if you can carry the lip, or you have a weird stance, you’re already fighting the odds. You need to think about the easiest way to get up and down in three, so do a little math. For most players, it means getting out of a bunker successfully - in any direction, then taking 2 putts. From my experience playing with members, the higher the handicap the worse the course management!!! Good Golfing. Michaelfoote.com.au Training AidThe V-Easy is a fantastic chipping and putting aid. When using the V-Easy as a putting and chipping aid, the legs of the V-Easy are placed under the arms and held in placed by the upper arms while the club shaft rests on the hinge. The club shaft lies on top of the hinge (close to the bottom of the grip) and the aid rests on the wrists. It can be lowered or raised for comfort. The player then lowers the club to the ground and makes the stroke with the V-Easy holding the wrist in the correct position for putting and chipping. This is to develop the feel of ‘quiet hands’ during the chipping and putting stroke. Also, it will improve distance, control and accuracy.
GOLF BALL FITTINGIn the golf shop on the counter there is an L.C.D touch screen to help find the best ball for your game and this begins with the best approach! By using this program or taking an on course evaluation scorecard this will help you to choose the right ball for your game. A lot of people tell me they are after more distance. There is 4 metres difference between a Titleist distance ball and a Pro V. The key considerations when choosing the right ball for you should be ball flight height, ball spin, feel of the club face.
Remember all ball assessments when fitting should be done with an iron, this is because the ball skims off the club face with a driver. An iron will give a greater spin rate and the ball will react more. For more detail on golf ball fitting and how to evaluate on course visit www.titleist.com Student of the monthI am proud to announce Maria Parnham has won 1 dozen Titleist balls as my student of the month with outstanding scores over the past few weeks. Maria blitzed the field with a round of 66 nett on the June medal day. Also, Maria had 43 stableford points and this has dropped her handicap 5 shots. Congratulations Maria your hard work is paying off! I look forward to seeing your great results continuing.
Hidden Valley Bus TripOn Sunday 20th June, a group of excited members and guests set off for a day trip to Hidden Valley Golf Club. The day started with croissants and champagne on the bus and then the entertainment started. I would love to say more but as they say, “what happens on tour, stays on tour!” (One thing that the group learnt is that Greg Bennett must have been a bingo king in a former life, as he cleaned up all the prizes in “Bus Bingo”.) Anthony and I would personally like to thank everyone who participated in the event and to give a huge thank you to Theo Vassiliadis for driving one of the buses. Jennifer Gabriele Streaks FieldCongratulations to Jennifer who conquered the course in tough and trying conditions, as the bad weather rolled in with a few holes to go. Tee markers were up the back on a challenging long par 75 course with a massive amount of water surrounding the fairways. In these conditions, Jennifer’s game was solid from start to finish. Some people are comparing it to Mc Dowell’s last 18 holes of the U.S. Open. A humble Jennifer spoke to the press and made the comment “the day was extremely relaxed and well organised and my game just fell into place.”
